Continuing towards Lake Powell,AZ

April 22 & 23, 2011  Friday & Saturday

As we traveled North we enjoyed the scenery.

The Palo Verde trees were blooming  and we passed an area with many Saguaro Cactus.  None were blooming yet although some were budding.

                                                                                                We hit some steep roads.

         IMG_4979                            Sunset Point Rest Ar

Sunset was the nicest Rest Area we have ever been in.  It was exceptionally well maintained.

It is always busy and has a large crew working there.

There are helpful information boards.        Arizona has closed some Rest Areas to save money.

The vegetation changed from Cactus to Evergreens as we continued.

We spent the night in a Flagstaff Wal Mart parking lot.   There were a number of others camping there.

          A go anywhere RV                               IMG_5036

What looked like a  go anywhere RV, pickup camper, small trailer, fifth wheel as well as larger RV's like ours.  In the morning we were able to help a disabled woman roll up the awning  on a rented RV that had partly unrolled as they traveled.  Hoyt was her Hero!

Heading North to Lake Powell

April 21, 2011

We left Yuma in the forenoon on Thursday the 21st of April 2011.

Hoyt & Bernice leave Cactus Gardens 4-21-2011               IMG_4831

Hooked up and ready to travel.   We passed the University of  Phoenix Stadium with it's cardinal head.

We stopped for the night in Surprise, AZ at Sunflower RV Resort.  It had 1100 sites...mostly Park Models.  It was a passport America park so we paid 1/2 price.  $..... but it had a pool and hot tub that I felt I needed as I had twisted my knee that day.

There were lots of activities and rooms for them. I enjoyed the pool and hot tub.

Our spot, 2nd space in upper right hand corner                  Activities Areas

The RV sites weren't very wide (even smaller than CG) and the tables were between 2 RV's.  We were in the  upper right hand corner of the park with the pools and buildings in the center.  It had great facilities but the pool was small and it was a larger park than I like.  It was fun to stay for a night though.  It reminded me of Country Roads in Yuma.

How Time Flies

March 16, 2011

The winter season of 2010 - 2011 is coming to a close.  We have only about a month or so left.

Many have already left.  Most are Canadians who are  limited in the amount of time they can spend in the USA due to Canadian health coverage and US immigration rules.

We didn't arrive until shortly before Thanksgiving this fall.  It was great to be back.  Cactus Gardens is a coming home.

We had a good winter season even though it was a short one.
